Off he goes!!! Iā€™m very glad I got to hug him and talk at dinner recently. Very excited for the young lad. He has a strong beginning of his toolkit and doing exactly what he wants to do. Ahhhhh! Bravo parents and Tomas!

I suspect Tomas knows exactly how lucky he is to have parents like you. I look forward to hearing about his adventures!

How timely ā€”I read this in the car as Dan and I drove Oliver to Furman University. We got him settled in, had lunch, and said our goodbyes.

As he turned and walked away, I had to take a furtive photo, too.

Love you. šŸ˜˜

Wow, how exciting! I can't believe it's time for college for him. Bravo to you, mom and dad. This is a tough season. xoxo

What a great insight -and I think it speaks to some great parenting on your part - it's wonderful to see him move into this next phase of life with such specific passions and interests! Beautifully written, as always.

You know, I think we all do the best we can in the parenting department. I'm just grateful for his passion, his weird hobbies and his generous nature. Which I think he has always had, even from when he was a little kid. Thanks, pal, as ever, for your support.

Thank you for this post Leanne. I really related to it and the feelings you expressed. For me it is an odd mixture of sadness, pride, and anxiety when you initially launch your child off to college. There is a sense you can't protect them as you did when they lived with you which looking back was probably a false notion anyway. You are not sure how the world will treat them and how they will manage there even though college is not the real world. But it is wonderful to see how they carve a path of their own and find their passions, careers, community, loves, and interests, and make them happen in their own unique ways as they become young adults. If we are lucky they even share where that takes them with their parents. So happy Tomas has achieved his goals and will have this amazing experience as he makes his way in the world. He is lucky to have you and Andy as his biggest cheerleaders!

Thanks, as always, Iris! It really surprised me how much more happy I am than sad as he heads off into the unknown this time. When he went to college, he seemed so much younger to me than he is now. I'm so excited for him.
